What is SDG #12?



  • This week’s lesson on SDG #12 involves a video on sustainable consumption, followed by student-led problem-solving projects to promote responsible practices. Students will then write to influential figures, sharing their solutions.

    ​The week ends with reflective journaling in the form of a resume and a quiz to reinforce their learning about responsible consumption and production, illustrating how their actions can lead to positive changes in sustainable practices.

This week, we’re diving into an important goal: SDG number 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.

​We’ll start by watching a short video about SDG #12 to learn why it’s so important to use resources wisely and reduce waste. The video will show us how smart choices can help our planet, ensuring that there’s enough for everyone, now and in the future.

​Next, we’re ready for a challenge! You’ll take part in fun activities that help promote better ways of consuming and producing things. Pick a project that sparks your interest. These activities will help us all think about how to be more responsible with what we use and throw away.

You’ll also have a chance to write to someone who can make a big difference, like a leader or an organisation. Spin the wheel to see who it will be, do some research, and try to get a response.

​Once you’ve completed your challenge, reflect on what you’ve learned and write it down in your digital journal. It’s a great way to remember how you’re helping to achieve our big goals.

Each week, we will share an inspirational quote from the esteemed environmentalist and advocate for sustainable practices, Jane Goodall.

We encourage you to write down the quote, print it, or even create a drawing inspired by her words.

After you’ve completed this, we invite you to reflect on and discuss the meaning of this quote. Think about what it signifies to us and how we can use Jane’s insights to make a difference in the world.

Research - Creating an Infographic

  • This activity challenges you to create an infographic on SDG #12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Start by checking out an example we’ve provided, and then use a template to design your own infographic, including cool facts and statistics you find through research.

    Be creative with pictures, charts, and colors to make your infographic exciting and easy to understand. This project will not only improve your research skills but also let you express your creativity, and it’s a fun way to work towards your SDG Challenge series certificate. Let’s get started and make something awesome!

Every week, you get to try a fun design project: making a cool and easy-to-understand infographic about one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This week, we’re diving into SDG #12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Take a look at the example we’ve shown you, then use the template to make your own infographic about how we can use and make things in a way that’s good for our planet.

​Feel free to look up more facts to add interesting details to your infographic. Use pictures, charts, graphs, and facts in a creative way. Try out different colors to make your design pop!

  • Every week offers students the exciting opportunity to select a world leader from our curated list and write to them about SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. Students are encouraged to creatively suggest how these leaders can contribute to solving these global challenges.

    ​Students can choose to send their letters via post or email, with all necessary details provided on the accompanying task card. The objective is to engage these influential figures, hoping to receive a response, or possibly initiate a phone conversation or arrange a direct meeting. This activity fosters independence, sharpens critical thinking, and improves communication skills, aiding their future endeavors.

    It’s important to acknowledge any responses received, as it provides students with a sense of accomplishment and affirmation that their voices are being heard.

Every week, you have the opportunity to connect with a global leader and discuss important issues. This week, we’re focusing on SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. You’ll start by reading my example letter to a prominent environmental advocate about their efforts in promoting sustainability to gather tips on how to write your own impactful letter.



After reading the example, spin the wheel provided to find out which world leader you will be addressing. In your letter, share your thoughts on responsible consumption and production and suggest ways they can enhance their support for this crucial goal. Incorporate well-known historical quotes to strengthen your points and add depth to your message.

If you’re not already familiar with the leader you’re assigned, you’ll need to research them. We’ve included all the necessary information in the booklet provided to help you get started.

Decide whether to send your letter by post or email, with all the necessary contact details included on the task card.

  • This week, students will write a letter to a world leader about SDG 12, focusing on responsible consumption and production, incorporating a poem to creatively highlight issues like global food waste.

    This assignment encourages independent writing skills, pushing students to creatively express their views and use poetry to deepen the impact of their message. They’ll practice articulating persuasive arguments and engaging leaders, aiming to foster critical thinking and enhance their ability to initiate dialogue and inspire action.

This week, I’m preparing a special letter to send to Jane Goodall, focusing on SDG 12, which addresses Responsible Consumption and Production. In my letter, I’ll be including a poem that highlights the issue of global food waste.

Post Your Letter - The Power of the Pen

  • This activity involves students directly by encouraging them to write letters to world leaders on pressing issues. It highlights the importance of determination, as students send out letters on a weekly basis until they secure a response, fostering resilience and illustrating the significance of their voice in global dialogues.

After you’ve finished writing your letter about the issues you feel are most crucial, it’s time to share your message with the world and await a reply.

Every week, we’ll send a letter to a different global leader, hoping they’ll respond.

If you don’t hear back, don’t lose heart; continue to persevere until you receive a response and your voice reaches those who can support your quest to improve the world.

My Digital Resume - Adding Experience #12

    ​With a customizable template, students can tailor their resumes to showcase their unique style. The completed resume will vividly highlight their efforts and achievements in fostering sustainable practices, demonstrating both their dedication and their learning journey.

Each week, we’re crafting a dynamic digital resume that showcases our contributions to all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This week, however, we’re honing in on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Think of your resume as a platform to display the initiatives you’ve been part of that aim to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
