How to Draw an Iceberg – Using Colour Values

Explore Antarctica through art! Paint majestic icebergs and sketch elephant seals while mastering color values, depth, and texture.

Why Choose This Course?

Get ready for an exciting artistic adventure! We’ll kick off with a live video from Antarctica, where Gavin and Jordan from Young Art USA will introduce you to a breathtaking, newly formed iceberg. You’ll learn how artists choose colours and techniques to evoke feelings and tell stories, then apply these ideas to create your iceberg masterpiece.

Students will explore the art of using a monochromatic scale, learning to balance light and dark shades to capture the true essence of an iceberg. To top it off, Jordan will teach students how to draw an elephant seal, using expert tips to master shading and texture. Once completed, students will exhibit their artwork in a school gallery, with some pieces auctioned to raise money for charity.

Learning Goals

  • Artistic Techniques: Students will explore the concept of colour values, learning how to mix shades and create depth in their iceberg paintings. They’ll also work on shading and texture while drawing an elephant seal.

  • Creative Expression: The course encourages students to interpret Antarctica’s beauty uniquely, developing confidence in their artistic choices.

  • Collaboration and Presentation: Students will prepare their work for a school art gallery, learning to share and explain their artistic vision to an audience.

  • Critical Thinking: Through reflecting on their artistic process and the impact of colour, students will gain a deeper understanding of how art can express stories and themes.

Global Impacts Already Made

This course has empowered children worldwide to become published authors, share their voices, and contribute to meaningful causes through storytelling. Their books not only inspire readers but also generate real-world change, making this program a unique opportunity to connect creativity with impact.
