Watch the video with your class and discuss the ideas explained. Talk about this week’s value and ask the children if they know what it means?

Ask questions around why it is important and how it can make our lives better.

The idea behind watching this video, is to set the foundations of the weekly value and get the children talking and thinking about it as the week progresses.

This week we will read What’s the Plan? and learn all about the power of Teamwork.

Teamwork means working together with other people to achieve a common goal. It’s like being on a team, where everyone has a role to play and works together to win the game. When we work as a team, we can share our ideas and strengths to solve problems and complete tasks. We also learn to communicate with each other and respect everyone’s opinions. Teamwork teaches us to be responsible, helpful, and supportive of each other, and to celebrate our successes together.

Quote of the week - Read and Discuss

  • Each week we will start by reading a quote, talking about what it means to further understand how we can use these words as lessons to learn from.

Read the following quote and discuss it with your class. You may even want to print it out and collate the quotes over the weeks to create a wall of discussion for future research projects.

Read this week’s quote and think about what it means and what we can learn from it to make the world a better place!

You may want to note it down in your notebook and draw a nice picture next to it!

Reading Activity

  • Read the book alongside your class and discuss the various lessons that we can learn from each of the pages and events within the text.

The text was curated by a primary-aged child, so there may be mistakes and this is expected, but the essence of the activity is to explain to your students that these books are about the message inside. The children who wrote these books did so with the intention to teach others about important values.

Have a discussion with your class about the values they spotted inside this book!

Read the book opposite and have a conversation about each of the pages and discuss what values you think are being taught during the story.

Remember that this book was created by a child and they are hoping that, by reading it, you are going to learn something about living your life to help others feel safe, happy and accepted.

Let’s see what you learn!

Values Activity Part 1 (ALL Students)

  • To complete this amazing course in values, we are going to set your children the ultimate challenge.

At Upschool, we have a course called ‘Build a Library to Change the World’. This course teaches participating students the entrepreneurial skills required to raise enough funds to build a library for a school community whom we have identified to not have sufficient educational resources. These schools are located in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

We need you to help fill these libraries with books.

    Instructions for getting involved:

Step 1: Do a call out to your community and ask them to gather any children’s books they no longer read.

Step 2: Collect those books at your school or home.

Step 3: Check the condition of the books and make sure they are OK.

Step 4: Put them in a box and get a quote for shipping to the Upschool office in India (address below)

Step 5: Run a fundraiser or find a sponsor to cover the cost of shipping.

Step 6: Send the books to the address listed below – and email the tracking number to us (hello@upschool.co) so we can look out for them.

Book Collection – Let’s Educate the World

This week, we want to take on one of the biggest challenges of all. Here at Upschool, we aim to build libraries worldwide to provide children with the opportunity to learn, just like you and me.

This is where your school and teamwork come in.

This week, we encourage you to start a community book collection and distribute them to children in need around the world.

Please follow the instructions on the infographic provided and join us in making the world a better place by working together as a team.

Values Activity (ALL Students) Part 2

  • Allow your children to create a poster to advertise your mission. Feel free to allow them to use any material and medium possible. We have included a Canva template which may help those children who wish to design their poster digitally. Once complete, allow your children to distribute their poster anywhere they like.

Designing Your Poster

Your first task is to engage your community and explain why this project is important. Create a colorful poster that communicates the purpose and goals of the project to the entire school community.

After completing the poster, display it throughout the school, in newsletters, and even take it home to inform your parents about this worthwhile project!

Make it colourful and make sure that everyone knows how important this work is!

Your Book of Values (Pages 30-32) - Teamwork is…

  • Over the next weeks, your children will be creating a simple but very powerful book on values.

Each week we will revisit this task and add three pages to their book until it is complete.

Please allow your children to use the template provided to assist them with their design. The children will need to use this template as the dimensions are very specific.

Once complete your children will add their book to the Upschool library for the world to see.

Your Book of Values (Pages 30-32) – Teamwork is …

This week we are going to start our very own book on values. Each week, we will ask you to add three more pages to the book. This week we will be adding the next 3 pages on teamwork.

Use the example to help you continue to create your very own book. Remember to keep it simple and keep your text away from the edges of the page!

Each week we will add three more pages to your book until your Book of Values is complete.

Good luck!

Closing Video - Watch and Think

  • Use this video as a plenary session to help the children consolidate their knowledge and walk away with the feeling that when we look out for others and act with the intention of helping them with no reward, we feel good inside and that is what matters.

Watch and Think – What is Teamwork?

When we work as team, we can accomplish anything and ,this week, we are working not only as a school team but as a global team.

Watch the funny video opposite and talk with your friends about how it feels when we work together, compared to the feeling when we work alone.
